The benefits of learning something new everyday

When I was young, I grew up knowing someone who started his job as a forklift operator, 20 years later, he is still a forklift operator. Look, do not get me wrong. I have nothing against forklift operators and there is nothing wrong starting your first job as a forklift operator, that is what you want to do, that is your dream job, if forklift is your passion then keep the job but after 20 years, go be a forklift manager, or a forklift engineer, or a specialist. But Not the same position after 20 years. Because when you are too comfortable with something, what’s comes next is fear to change. We are not talking about a machinist or a pilot where the trade makes you a specialist with years of experience. When I was working as an assistant engineer, I knew a senior machinist who became a company asset due to his precisions and zero tolerance in machining skills. He wasn’t a regular machine operator for 20 years who job hopped more than 10 companies. The risk of not upgrading is stagnancy. Even plants grow into trees.
The benefits of learning everyday makes you a well informed person and when you are well informed you make better decisions.

Learning new things of the same thing everyday is not boring. You need to set objectives of learning. Take it slow and bit by bit, trust me, you will reach there. Say today, you want to know about the tyres of your car. Just take one for instance, the tyres itself, you will learn about the rim size, the pressure needed, the tread pattern, the width… In one day all that can be done. Then next, you learn about the cooling system. And the next a different topic so on. Trust me, in 10 days of learning a different topic each day, you will know something about your car. Apply this method to your work, your school, your hobbies. Plan a 10 day learning objectives, you will know how to move on from there. But just remember, don’t learn everything in one day, there’s no need to. Learn a little everyday is better than learning everything in one day and nothing at all for many days. Once you completed your exercises, you will look at things from a broader perspectives. Do not rush. The intended purpose is to learn something everyday and not rush to know everything quickly. If you just started out, you will be overwhelmed by information and you may end giving up. If you have time in your hands, then that is a whole lot different matter. If you don’t easily crack under pressure, then by all means, do it. It will be crazy but yeah, you are welcome.

When you have more knowledge, you have more information to share. You have more things to say. You will speak about the same topic from different views. Imagine a movie with only one camera angle, do u think Tht will be incredible? Similarly the way we speak. But knowing does not certify you to keep talking. Remember this, fools say what they want to say while wisemen say things that needs to be said. Be the latter.

Dialogist. I remember years ago reading an article on how to look intelligent. The article suggested I read general topics but just the surface. So I came up with a metaphor like the magazine cover, we got attracted to it for the graphic designs and catchy headline titles. So I read daily about science, health, technology, business, sports , fashion, local news online… Just to get a bit of everything. People who know me said I can talk for hours. Well, the same reason why we can run our cars for many years… Because we keep topping them up with fuel and maintaining them. The more we should do it for our brain, because you have only one brain and its irreplaceable. So keep fuelling your mind with knowledge. Your brain won’t grow in size But it will grow in power n don’t worry, it will never run out of storage
They say Travelers are the best interlocutors, but I don’t agree. Yes they know places, came across more cultures, well diverse but if they don’t talk… We get nothing from them. It’s the sharing part that is most important. I travel to places myself. And I love culture n people n talked about experiences. So learn something new everyday. It can be anything. As long it’s something new. Everyday.

Self Development

How to learn everything?

Remember the first time you noticed your nephew or niece playing and arranging blocks and grouping them in colours or shapes? Remember how amused you felt looking at how smart they were fitting in the right shapes of blocks? Well it happens to everyone of them. Every baby and child and even yourself when you were too young to remember. That’s how you learn. That’s how your parents felt how smart you were. But somehow… somewhere… we stopped. We were never interested anymore. We no longer get curious. We just stopped learning. And we blame our adulthood. We blame our priorities. We blame the lack of time we had. Well That was a choice we made. Everyone has the same number of hours a day. What matters at the end of the day is how well we spent it.

What went wrong you may ask. You were not like this before. You were active once. Energetic. Strong. Well the good thing is that you are here reading this article right this moment because you know there’s something wrong. You are aware that you need to do something. You are aware you need change. Remember this, I want to tell you something. Be curious. Be curious about who is behind you after sitting for half an hour at the Coffeeshop. Be curious about how many steps you need to take to walk across the room. Be curious to know what is inside your bag that you tucked under your reading table weeks ago. They say curiosity killed the cat. But I say knowing and learning brings you satisfaction. Knowing brings you the sense of security you left behind years ago. When you are curious, you learn everything. Even Albert Einstein once said a person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. I believe most successful people are those who made plenty of mistakes in their life and they never give up to make things better. Learning everything has its drawbacks however. No one can actually learn everything, but being curious is enough to get that engine mind going. It will make you want to find out more about something. Because the need to know will drive you to get up and start. I know it’s tiring. But it’s a choice. It’s a choice of doing. You don’t have to do it if you don’t want to. Set your priorities. Balance what you need to know. Pick up the right book. If you read miscellaneous contents, you end up being miscellaneous person yourself. Keep what is useful to you and browse and dump what’s not. It’s ok to smile and laugh at humour once a while. It’s healthy but not all the time. At the same time, do remember, you need to stay curious. Because your curiosity will not kill a cat but rather, it will keep you hungry to learn everything.
